Once in a while, you go to a wedding in Maine and you eat buttered Maine lobster rolls. And cheese. And pancakes. And toast. And 4 different homemade butters. And cinnamon rolls. And lemon pound cake. And whipped cream. And all the things. After 5+ years of being paleo/aip and gluten/dairy-free, you need a little (a lot) of extra support. In addition to my homeopathic drops for inflammation, these supplements kept me functional this weekend:
Digestive Enzymes: I often take a broad spectrum with some Betaine HCl to help breakdown my foods for better absorption. But this weekend I LOADED up on a specialized enzyme called DPP-IV which targets gluten and casein (ideal for “accidental” exposures.)
Probiotics: Taken at least an hour away from enzymes with Betaine HCl.
Digestive Support: Blend of aloe and L-glutamine (careful with this if you have leaky barriers or neuro-inflammation) to help restore the gut lining.
Bioflavinoid Complex: A mixture of compounds from citrus to strengthen the integrity of blood vessels and help dampen inflammation.
Mitchondrial Support: A blend of antioxidants including ALA and milk thistle to boost glutathione production.
Bentonite and Bile: A natural detox clay that collects and removes toxins, quells nausea and solidifies bowel excretions.
🏽Chiropractic adjustments: More so than pain relief, adjustments keep your nervous system firing on all cylinders and help modulate your immune system. Regular chiropractic care made me healthier and more resilient that I ever knew was possible. Always helps to travel with a chiropractor who can adjust you anywhere (including on a boat!) Thanks @drtituschiu!

Posted at 16:57h, 17 JulyGlad you’re letting loose babe. It’s good for the soul and sometimes the joy chemicals transfer in the body to help override a huge reaction. Luckily you came prepared!! What’s the homeopathy company you work with that u use for yourself?

Posted at 19:28h, 17 JulyThank you so much for this post! Food is a major love language for me and there are social gatherings that make it so important for me to eat freely and really be present with everyone. Been wondering what the best “boosters” are for that!

Posted at 19:38h, 17 July@paleo.jen I was referring to L-glutamine. It can cross the blood brain barrier and cause in an excitotoxic glutamate spill for some people with neurological susceptibility. As with all foods and supplements, everyone’s physiological response varies so it’s best to work with a natural healthcare practitioner to personalize your care.

Posted at 19:40h, 17 July@mdvdem not that I know of! But too much, too often can down regulate your own bile production. Pure bentonite clay is also available sans bile with great detox effects.

Posted at 19:47h, 17 July@meganjanegood So glad it resonated with you! I definitely went a bit overboard this weekend (I could have easily joined the festivities in moderation…) It’s great to know what to do when you need a little extra support, and maintaining a wellness lifestyle makes that manageable!

Posted at 00:44h, 18 JulyShoot! Am I supposed to be taking my probiotics an hour away from enzymes? I’ve been taking them both with food
drnatashaf
Posted at 18:13h, 20 July@just_me_healing Your enzymes don’t have Betaine HCl in them so it’s not as important to take them separately!

Posted at 04:06h, 21 JulyI’ve tried a little splurging on vacation but I still can’t 🙁 this past weekend my muscle enzymes went way up after eating a little sugar. 🙁 @drnatashaf
drnatashaf
Posted at 04:18h, 21 July@andreaaip I’m sorry to hear that! Hope you’re healing quickly. To be frank, my weeklong splurge got out of hand, I didn’t do it in moderation and it ended in a puke session on the way to the airport yesterday! The good news is I bounced back pretty quickly thanks to the supplements/homeopathy I had on hand and am almost back to normal today (except for my expectedly bloated gut which will take a month or so to be normal again!) I have to say though, eating my cheat meals felt good for about half an hour…then I started to REALLY miss and appreciate my clean diet and all the ways I’ve learned and changed over the past several years.
